How to brighten up your front porch

My father is very handy. He can literally build anything you want. When Britt and I bought our new house, we knew we would be spending a lot of time on our front porch. It is the South, after all! We just needed some seating. Of course, Dad was happy to oblige. He built some rather sturdy benches for us. The only thing they were missing was a personal touch. The solution: I painted this folk-inspired design right onto the wood. The bright ochre color really pops on the white-washed wood. And look, Minnie approves too!

My Rehearsal Dinner: The Design Details

In my last post, I talked about the design work I did for my wedding. Well, guess what? It doesn't end there. There's my rehearsal dinner, too! 

My wedding's color palette was very clean: white and greenery. So I wanted the rehearsal dinner to be colorful and bold! My florist really set the mood with jewel-toned candles and luscious floral arrangements. Hand-lettered agate slices served as place cards for my guests.

There were little gift bags for my guests, which were full of little Savannah-inspired treasures. I made these by using simple paper bags, which I dressed up by adding a little bit of greenery and stamping with black wax. Take a closer look at the wax seal - it's my astrological sign! My Wedding: The Design Details

We did it - Britt and I made it official. We're married! 

Our wedding day was a blur. We spent countless hours preparing for it, and then it just flew by! I wish I could go back and relive that entire day. Fortunately, I have beautiful photos by my friend and talented photographer Mackensey Alexander to remember it by. 

I've done a lot of design-y things for other people's weddings. Paper goods, mostly. It's one of my favorite things to do, actually! And for my wedding, I knew I had to go ALL OUT. After all, as an illustrator and a designer, I really wanted my wedding to be a reflection of me.

First of all, Britt and I collaborated on the invitations. Britt created a tarot-inspired illustration for our save-the-dates. I designed and hand-lettered everything else, including a logo that could be printed on different things: napkins, to-go cups, you name it.

Also, I needed some good signage! My dad built some sandwich boards, which I hand-lettered on. To make them extra special, I added a bit of gold foil.

The holidays are here!

This year, I wanted to do something really special about the way I wrapped my presents. I had never played with linocut prints before, but I thought this would be perfect opportunity to give it go. After several hours of block-printing craft paper, dusting salvaged pinecones with gold glitter, and a lot of meticulous wrapping, I felt like a regular Martha Stewart DIY Goddess. In the end, I had a bunch of really beautifully wrapped boxes that my family was admittedly a bit apprehensive about unwrapping. Check out the process below!

Now I just need to figure out how I can outdo myself next year...
