I've done a couple of designs in the past for Adele Wolf, a burlesque performer and a friend. The art direction is always super flirty and fun, so I was really excited when Adele contacted me to create another logo for her expanding burlesque business.
Illustration Roundup January 2014
The gallery below is a collection of doodles and fun lil' illustrations I've done so far this year.
Hope everyone is having a great 2014 so far!
The holidays are here!
This year, I wanted to do something really special about the way I wrapped my presents. I had never played with linocut prints before, but I thought this would be perfect opportunity to give it go. After several hours of block-printing craft paper, dusting salvaged pinecones with gold glitter, and a lot of meticulous wrapping, I felt like a regular Martha Stewart DIY Goddess. In the end, I had a bunch of really beautifully wrapped boxes that my family was admittedly a bit apprehensive about unwrapping. Check out the process below!
Now I just need to figure out how I can outdo myself next year...
Sleigh Ride
In the past, I've had the pleasure of designing promotional art for one of my favorite bands, The Last Bison. I was so pleased when the band commissioned me once again to do the cover for their Christmas EP.
The main reason I love working with The Last Bison is that they always ask for designs that really challenge me as an illustrator. Every time I've created work for them, I always come out with a super complex illustration that I'm really proud of.
Here's a link to previous work I've done for The Last Bison.
Bookporn: when "Nerdy" and "Sexy" became analogous
I love doing the artist swaps at Ten Paces & Draw. It reminds me of when I used to do them with my friends on DeviantArt. I was pretty young then, maybe 13 or 14, and most of my friends were older - they all seemed successful and talented, and I was just elated that they wanted to collaborate with me. So when the girls at Ten Paces told me that this swap was going to be a combination between working illustrators and students, I jumped onboard immediately. I love a bit of role reversal. Not only that, but the theme was pretty cute, too: we were asked to pick any random hashtag to base our sketches on.
The sketch I received was from MICA student Kate Seltzer, with the chosen hashtag of #bookporn. These swaps are all about having fun, and that is exactly what I did with Kate's sketch.
To see Kate's sketch accompanied by mine, check out the entire swap over at Ten Paces & Draw.
On the topic of books and porn, I've seen a lot of shirts over here in London that say "GEEK" and "NERD." These shirts are from Topshop, one of Britain's huge fashion retailers. Are nerds sexy now? I've always thought so.
Waffles & Pancakes, Breakfast adversaries brought together by a mutual love of syrup
Back with another update, brought to you by Ten Paces & Draw. Always a pleasure. This time, the artist swap was themed "Hand-Lettering." The sketch given to me featured a quote by Mitch Hedberg: A waffle is like a pancake with a syrup trap.

If I'm honest, I prefer pancakes. I actually like the way the syrup sort of goes everywhere because there's a nice pool of syrup to drown my bacon in. And yes, I am from the South.
Any Excuse to Draw a Corgi
Corgis. What is it about their short, stumpy bodies that melts my icy heart?
This piece was created for yet another Ten Paces & Draw swap, with the theme being "Home Sweet Home." The orginal sketch was done by the uber talented Alyssa Nassner.
The Last Bison promotional pieces
It's not every day when one of your favorite bands asks you to do a poster for them. So I was over-the-moon when Dan Hardesty of The Last Bison commissioned me to create one badass illustration.
It's unlike my usual work, but I'm always up for a challenge. The Last Bison was so great to work with, and thrilled with the design, too. The poster is available to purchase from their store.
I was asked to create a t-shirt design, too. The design itself was actually done a while back as fanart, but the band liked it so much they had it formatted to be printed on a ladies' tee.
The Last Bison's new album Inheritance comes out March 5, 2013.
UPDATE: Listen to Inheritance on Spotify!
Pages & Pages
I had the pleasure of participating in another Ten Paces & Draw swap recently. The theme was "Hand Lettering: Song Lyrics," (click here to see the last challenge I did) and the sketch I was given was done by the talented illustrator/designer Sarah Straub. The lyrics are from "Engine Driver" by the Decemberists.
Q&A with YWS
I had the pleasure of being photographed by local photographer Cedric Smith a few weeks ago. The pictures were for a feature "Savannah, have you met..." on You're Welcome Savannah, a great blog focusing on Savannah lifestyle, fashion, and food. I couldn't be more pleased with how the photos turned out.
Thanks YWS! Click here to see the rest of the photos and read my Q&A.
